Demand research
Demand is generated by need. People have several basic needs in order to survive, such as food, clothing, shelter, safety, a sense of belonging, and recognition. These are fundamental needs which are determined mainly by human biology. However, man is – first and foremost – a social being, and the mechanism of interacting with others results in the development of wants for a specific way to satisfy the fundamental needs. Essentially, a hungry human may reach either for bread and butter or for caviar. When clothing is needed, a cheap t-shirt on sale at a supermarket or a shirt from the most recent Versace collection will fit the bill for a diverse range of people. This is when demand appears – the requirement to obtain specific products or services supported by the ability and willingness to buy.
