Marketing is a very complicated phenomenon. Marketing research is a tool helping to put into order many variables and evaluating how those variables are connected with each other in the first place.
For this purpose different statistical procedures are applied to raw data. Some of them, for example, simple evaluations of two variables correlation - are simple enough, so even non-professional can understand. But more complicated procedures with many variables need long preparation and long training. But most complicated procedures, like latent class anaysis - can be done only by few professional statisticians.
Cooperation between statisticians and researchers opens new horizons and enables very deep insight to data structure.
